About this deal

Cafcass set up a meeting to explain what was going on and that helped. They told us why we were going through this process. It was useful to have them break down the situation and explain what was going on. I didn’t feel so scared after that. I have the privilege of managing experienced staff who are all working towards the goal of achieving better outcomes for children. I am able to contribute to this goal through case discussions, supervision and auditing reports and files. As an Assistant Service Manager, you provide advanced social work-level services to children, families and courts by assessing and analysing court applications for any child protection and serious welfare issues affecting a child or young person. In general, boys tend to ‘act out’ in their behaviour while girls tend to ‘withdraw’ or try to be more helpful. This is not always the case of course. Younger children might display their feelings through symbolic play, such as drawings or imaginative play, which may feature sadness or anger. Ultimately, the focus of the role is to ensure that our priorities, policies and plans are delivered to the highest possible standard to ensure positive outcomes for children and young people.

In 2012 Cafcass published its Operating Framework which sets out how Cafcass meets its responsibilities as a family court social work service to children and young people, to courts and to family members, as required by legislation. While we set out practice quality standards and hold children’s guardians accountable for meeting those standards, a children’s guardian has a high level of independence in making their professional judgements in individual proceedings. This is different to a social worker in children’s social care, who represents the judgement and decisions of the local authority. You may be feeling out of control yourself about what has happened and what is happening. Your child will be feeling like this too. So, it is important for you to support and reassure them. It might be that your child has had time to think but has not been able to pinpoint why they are feeling sad, angry or worried. It is okay for you to offer some suggestions if you have an idea why they might be feeling like that, such as “Do you think you are worried because you will miss your dad?”Family Court Advisers become involved in cases when children are subject to an application for care or supervision proceedings by social services (public law) or in an adoption applications. Cafcass also provide assistance when parents who are separating or divorcing can’t agree on arrangements for their children (private law). There are a small number of specialist roles that are not open to non-British citizens. Any nationality requirements will be specified in the vacancy details. A Curriculum Vitae which provides details of your education and qualifications, employment history, directorships, membership of professional bodies and details of any publications or awards; Complaints about other professionals such as judges, local authority social workers, solicitors, or experts appointed by the family court Seeing things differently’ is about considering the situation the way your child does and keeping your own feelings about the other parent separate. Young people who have gone through this this have titled their book of their experiences, ‘In Our Shoes’.

The role also enables me to build and maintain relationships with our partner agencies as well as our service users. emotional abuse, when a parent or carer behaves in a way or allows others to behave in a way that is likely to seriously affect the child’s emotional wellbeing and mental health. This can include withdrawal of love and attention as punishment, different and hurtful treatment to that of siblings or other children in the household, constant rejection aimed at causing emotional pain, continual and/or severe criticism, and experiencing domestic abuse by living in a home where domestic abuse is present. seeking the views of other family members and professionals who know the child and/or know the parents; I told Anne that I liked playing with my dad, and I missed him. But it was better at home now there was no shouting and arguing.

All children benefit from their parents or the adults they trust helping them to figure out what their feelings are so that these feelings do not come out in ways that harm themselves or others. Children’s Guardians are required to scrutinise the assessments undertaken by the local authority and the care plan they propose for the child and then, based on their scrutiny and analysis, to carry out their own independent enquiries with any such persons as they consider appropriate or the court directs. Where the child’s mother and father are not married to each other at the time of the birth, an unmarried father will have parental responsibility for a child born after 1st December 2003 if they are named on the birth certificate and Register.
